(a bit early but still)
To all the Moms out there like myself....who are blessed enough to have the most rewarding and most difficult "job" in the world...
I know my son is the light of my life and everything I am, do and strive for are because of and for him. I can't even recall what life was like before he was here.
I hope all of the Moms out there have a wonderful day with your baby (s), hug them tight and cherish them-for you are their everything...
In the words of one of my favorite flicks:
"Mother is the name for God on the lips and hearts of all children"

Re: Happy Mother's Day
Fri, May 9, 2008 - 7:34 PMHappy Mothers day to the true mother of most of us Houston dancers...
Debbie!!!
Honestly, of dancers who have been in Houston for more than a year, who isn't one of Debbie's dance daughters? -

Re: Happy Mother's Day
Fri, May 9, 2008 - 7:37 PMNO KIDDING!!
Debbie is our momma..Jen took from her in Conroe and me here in Houston...

Re: Happy Mother's Day
Yesterday, 7:21 PMWe need to create a show to honor Debbie. She's created enough choreos to fill a whole show. I've always wanted to do that. Come on, Yaga Da!
Don't forget that Ziah of Awalim is also an Ali.

Re: Happy Mother's Day
Today, 8:27 AMMissy, that is an awesome idea! Debbie has done so much for so many & it would be awesome to honor her like that! You're so smart!! -
-
Re: Happy Mother's Day
Today, 8:36 AMThat would be fun to do!!! Are yal up for really doing it?
Wonder if somehow we could keep it a surprises. She does not go on tribe really so anybody on here we could just not mention it. Or We can remove this discussion just to be safe if we really want to do this.

Re: Happy Mother's Day
Today, 10:19 AMI am totally serious, I've been thinking about it for ages.
I've not brought it up before because I was doubtful that anyone was willing to put in the work to make it happen.
Name Debbie's Choreographies(originals or Debbie-fied ones that she taught us):
Yaga Da
Arabic Rock(I think that is the name of it)
Ala Nar
Ente
that hafla song(bobby's)
The drum solo
That's all I can remember from my era with her. -

This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.
Re: Happy Mother's Day
Today, 10:37 AMthe zill routine
- my first appearance on stage- & it was with zills.
1991.... -

Re: Happy Mother's Day
Today, 10:40 AMI have most of the music. I remember the zill routine. I learned it too. You started a year or so before me -

Re: Happy Mother's Day
Today, 2:33 PMNary Naray was the last one I did with her. That is totally not the name of the song but that's what she called it! -

Re: Happy Mother's Day
Today, 3:58 PMI could try really hard and maybe get Zaina Ali to fly in to see all her daughters work. Maybe some of our aunties from KC as well.
I think if i could get her ali sisters to come down we can get Zaina. zaina mother is extremely sick in Arkansas and she does not like to make commitments as she does not know when she has to fly to Arkansas for her mother.
Not only could we do her choregraphies but we could also show her what she has done for us and how we have grown into what we all are because of her by showing our children performing our choregraphy's and show how her inspiration continues on. We would never be the dancers or the teachers we are without her. Kinda like this is your life in dance and how she will always continue on and be a part of us.
There would be no workshop just a show and big party after.
These of course are just ideas. -

Today, 4:05 PMClarification:

By daughters work I meant debbie of course not us. Debbie is the star of this show. Realized it might have read differently after i hit submit. -

Re: Happy Mother's Day
Today, 4:16 PMAnd there absolutely MUST be White Zinfindel. Lots & lots of White Zin! lol!

Re: Happy Mother's Day
Today, 4:21 PMI was thinking to alternate between one of her works and something from one of her students.
Let's not schedule this during faire but maybe for December or the beginning of next year. That way we could all have time to work on it. -

Re: Happy Mother's Day
Today, 4:25 PMfyi...beginning of Jan. is 3rd Coast & a lot of us will probably be gone. I was wondering if maybe we could do this as a 5th Tues. at Avant Garden but I think she has rehearsal with Solange that night. -
-
Re: Happy Mother's Day
Today, 4:30 PMThanks Jen, I've done lots of shows and I never schedule on top of other previously planned events, it's bad Karma.
I was thinking December, end of Jan or such. This is bigger and more important that my silly 5th tuesday. This needs to be a real show that stands on its own. Maybe Sirrom would be a good venue?

Re: Happy Mother's Day
Today, 8:31 AMYeah she did teach us well. Remember Karen B. tying you and me together Z. We have never dance together but we move together like we had been dancing together for years. That was freaky.
-
Re: Happy Mother's Day
Yesterday, 12:45 PMHonestly, you could put all of Debbie's girls on stage and we would still match.
Many ages ago when FCBD came to town there were a group of us in the private class that had all been Debbie's students at one point and Carolena commented on how well we all danced together even though we were in different troupes. I can't remember, were you in that Friday morning private Z? There were only a few people.
