Dec. 19th this Sat. is our Holiday Hafla at Chocolate Passion. Bellydance enthusists, mark your calendars for a night of chocolate, caffine and BELLYDANCE! Come and help us celebrate the season through our love of this fun and intriguing art form!
This month's Belly Dance Spectacular will feature performances by Angela, Sara, Saphira, Missy and Joleena!
Come hungry and early to give yourself time to buy something yummy from the menu and a chance at choice seating. Seating is first come first served so come at least 15-20 min early.
The Belly Dance show of course is FREE and Family Friendly!.

Middle-eastern stringed instrument teacher in Houston?

A friend of mine is looking to learn to play a middle eastern style lute. She says she specifically wants to learn the Persian tar or Greek bouzouki, but she'll "settle for" a saz or santour teacher. Does anyone out there know of a teacher in the Houston area that I could point her at?

Class 1* – October 25, 2009: Technique (dance steps and combinations). *Beginner students are required to take Class 1.
Class 2 – November 15, 2009: Putting the dance steps together.
Class 3 – December 13, 2009: Preparation for performing.

Please bring finger cymbals and veil!

All 3 classes for $75 or $30 each.

Intermediate students with finger cymbal experience, as well as experience with dance steps may start with Class 2.

Sirrom's latest Artist-in-Residence series features Victoria Astley teaching Turkish Romany belly dancing, Saturdays, from 11:30 am - 12:30 pm. 10/24 through 12/5.

Are you seeking to spice up your dancing and add a new flair: Victoria is offering an introduction to the exuberant and beautiful Turkish Romany style of belly dance, distinguished by its lively hopping footwork and loose, passionate hip work. The 6-week specialty course will include an overview of the dance, its history and music (including the Karshlama rhythm), and a series of techniques and combinations showcasing the distinctive Turkish style and movements.

Special Introduction Price: $80 for six weeks.

Class will not meet on Saturday, Nov. 28.

Chocolate Passion has a safe &, casual atmosphere, so bring your friends, family or significant other. Enjoy some coffee, chocolate and dancing. There is open dance during imtermissin and after the show so try out some moves of your own!
As always our show is FREE and family friendly. There will be a tip basket available to show your love for the dancers.
The show is at 6:00-8:00pm but it is recomended that you show up 20 minutes early to find choice seating and order refreshments.

I am the Personal Interest Coordinator at the Alvin Community College Continuing Education Department.

We are in immediate need of a Belly Dance Instructor at our Alvin Campus, October 14-November 18. Our campus is located at 3110 Mustang Road, Alvin, TX 77511. Class runs on Wednesdays, 5:00pm-6:00pm. After this session day and time can be changed to meet the instructors schedule.

If you have someone or possibly know someone that lives closer to the Alvin /Pearland area, and would like to instruct any of the above dance classes, please give us a call at your earliest convenience.

Vagabond Cirque 2009!

This year's Vagabond Cirque is in honor of Caitlyn Bibeau and will benefit Texas Children's Hospital.

Caitlyn developed a sacrococcygeal teratoma in her fourth month of development. Her parents, Bonnie and Brian Bibeau, were given the option to terminate Bonnie's pregnancy, as the possibility of Caitlyn's survival was somewhat slim.

But Bonnie and Brian are fighters, and chose to take the chance that Caitlyn might survive. At 37 weeks, the tumor had grown to almost twelve inches and Bonnie was forced to deliver via C-section on March 20, 2009. Caitlyn lived for eleven hours before her little body gave out.
Bonnie and Brian have slowly begun their recovery, supported by many friends and family members.
Bonnie and Brian are honored to have this event held in memeory of their beloved Caitlyn, and have chosen Texas Children's Hospital as the beneficiary.

Why, yes! Yes you are!!!

I am one of the members of 4 Wench Productions and we produce an event called “Tribal Alchemy”. Now I know many of you think because of the word “tribal”, this event has nothing to offer to YOU. This would be incorrect.

What is Alchemy? By definition, alchemy is “ A medieval chemical philosophy having as its asserted aims the transmutation of base metals into gold, the discovery of the panacea, and the preparation of the elixir of longevity. “ How this translates to US is the mixture of different elements of dance and music to create something entirely new.

We offer affordable workshops, 36.00 each (which are approximately one week’s worth of fast food for most) and these workshops are instructed by some of the most sought after teachers around.

For the musicians, we have with us this year Mr. Dave Hall, who has toured with Solace Live and himself has been a drumming instructor for over 15 years. He has a vast knowledge base and much to offer.

For dancers who are not primarily of the “tribal” persuasion, one of our most requested an instructor (returning for a THIRD year) is Mira Betz. Her knowledge base is SO vast; it would fill this page to list every workshop topic she works with. She has taught workshops on Moroccan folkloric dance with us and this year is offering TWO very different workshops (one on improvisation skills and the other is all about the Taxeem!)

We have SOOZ, who is Fat Chance certified coming to share the ATS goodness. We have Theatrical bellydance, we have Belladonna bringing her unbelievable SWORD skills to teach. The list goes on and on!

The fact is, most bellydancers (no matter what style they fall into) use the same dance vocabulary. Our event offers the chance to learn some new ways to USE those moves, perhaps give you a FRESH view of your dance, and maybe turn you on to something you might not have previously been willing to try.

For 36.00 and a few short hours of your time, you can get a glimpse of something new and maybe start to figure out how some dancers “do that stuff”.

Most importantly, this event is NON PROFIT and benefits Safe Haven of Tarrant County. This center is a shelter and provides assistance for women and children who are affected by domestic violence. I am pleased to announce that since our Belly Dance Night at Chocolate Passion was so great the first time around that we are going for round 2! Saturday Aug. 22nd, from 6:00pm – 8:00pm we will have individual performances by the very lovely dancers, Angela (formerly of Long Beach, CA), Tareija, Missy, Joleena, Alina and Viscaria,as well as a troupe performance from Spring,’ Khandroma. Leila Gamal returns to Sirroms Oct. 17 & 18!

We had so much fun at the Sirrom 29th anniversary workshop and Hafla with the incredible Leila Gamal that she is coming back Oct. 17 & 18 for a benefit workshop and show. On Saturday, she will be teaching a Golden Age orientale choreography; on Sunday, she will teach fan veil technique and choreography. If you were at the Hafla, you saw her incredible fan technique.

The registration forms will be up on the Sirrom website shortly.

(And yes, the benefit is for Sirrom School of Dance.)

tantric temples are like a note book you can learn a lot from these temples.these templese were like a school and students were learning art of tantra. these temples were not teaching history or politics or any other time and life wasting subjects [which we learn in our modern day schools ]and these subjects which we learn in our modern schools are not usefull in our life because they only teach us competetion,power trips ,greed and all type of negativity.thats why so much terrorism ,fighting ,negativity is happening in these modern days but these temples were teaching the art of tantra which is very useful in our daily life to bring ,joy , abundance,compassion in the life so we can live our life 24 hours celebrating in peace and harmony

this is a zaggaret out , inviting all belly dancers, middle eastern dancers, performers, actors and vendors of dancer and gypsy goodies in and around Texas to come join us.

ALL are encouraged to come join us..... this will be an open dance forum... so any and all dancers will be encouraged to perform... drummers, a smorgasbord of dancers to drum for... and vendors... mucho dancers to target your wares to... have yet to meet a dancer who doesn't like the bling, swing or feel of new dancer stuff ;)

Hello everyone! This is a call for Belly Dancers (solo and troupe performers) intermediate and advanced levels to perform at Chocolate Passion Chocolatier and Gourmet Coffee House.

There are very few dance opportunities in montgomery county outside of a class enviroment so we would like to give those who would like to perform the chance. Chocolate Passion provides a safe casual enviroment for us to share our craft with those that might otherwise never have seen bellydancing.
We are scheduled for Aug. 22nd (a Saturday) 6-8pm.

We will have a tip jar at the front to be divied up at the end of the night.

Please drop me an email and let me know if you are interested. Also let me know how long you would like your set to be (1 or 2 songs) and the lenghth of each. Your dance style and whether you are a troupe or not. This helps us figure out the line up.
Please let me know soon. We are planning another for September as well so if all the spots fill up we will put you on the next months list. BTW, There will be open dance for our patrons during intermission and after the show so if you dont wish to perform, you can still get your shimmy on with us!

Vagabond Cirque - performer lineup

I am putting the final touches on the lineup for all four stages, and will be sending out the final schedule before I head to Austin on Friday. :)

The time is FLYING - so dancers, start making sure you have all of your recorded music ready for me... with the lineup, I'll be sending out upload information for where to put your music, the format is should be in, and the instructions for how to name the files. No individual iPods will be allowed this year - I have to have everything in advance. : )

Vagabond Cirque- Call for Drummers and Other Musicians!

Woo hoo! We're doing it again this year! Vagabond Cirque will be on September 19, 2009 from 6:00 p.m. to midnight (or thereafter) at Avant Garden. Last year over 200 people attended this event to support HAWC.

This year, we will be raising money for Texas Children's Hospital to honor Caitlyn Bibeau, daughter of Bonnie and Brian Bibeau. Caitlyn passed away after only eleven hours after her birth due to a tumor almost 12-inches in size.

So we need to make this year even bigger and better than last year. And that means we need more MUSIC!
If you are a drummer or Middle Eastern/ East Indian/Jazz/ Vaudeville/ something else really awesome musician, please contact me either here on Tribe or at naribellydance@yahoo.com

We already have five musical acts, but with four areas offering some form of entertainment throughout the night, we need a few more. We would like musicians who are interested in performing at least two sets and can perform with dancers and/or alone.
We especially need drummers to play throughout the night and lead a drum jam at the end of the event.

You will receive a goodie bag, free food, acccess to a green room, and LOTS of exposure. The event is certain to be larger than it was last year and it is TONS of fun!

I hope to share the big top with some of you at this year's Vagabond Cirque!

Fast and fabulous, flirty and folkloric - learn a new Urban Gypsy signature choreography made just for you and Tribal Alchemy! The ladies of Urban Gypsy have expanded their folkloric dance study to continue to understand and appreciate the diverse cultures of Egypt. All this tribally folkloric goodness has been put together into a dance that will knock you off your feet! Part Ghawazee, with bits of Bedouin, some Saiidi and (of course) lots of good ol' tribal belly dance. In this three hour class, the choreography will be broken down first by technique with attention given to the origination and history of some of the more folkloric movements. Then we will build combinations that can be used within your own solo or troupe work. Finally, the combinations will be pieced together into a fast folkloric-inspired tribal number that will harkens back to the days of the desert and remind you of exactly why you fell in love with the dance!

Tribal Alchemy is a NON PROFIT event that benefits SAFE HAVEN of TARRANT COUNTY. SafeHaven of Tarrant County is a non-profit organization created to help victims of domestic violence. They provide shelters, meal, clothing, education, counseling, medical and dental care and other services that really benefit the community. Last year Tribal Alchemy was able to give a van load of donations to SafeHaven along with some money. Thank you to all that donated! ~Ceiling height: 16' from floor to bottom of truss
~Stage flooring: 3/4" plywood raised on 1x4 slats. Covered by 1/8" tempered hardboard. (As soon as we get the seating configuration we will let you know of the stage area. Don't worry you will not have a little stage in the middle of the room as shown in the picture )
~Dressing rooms are availabe but please come prepared as much as possible because space is limited.
~No fire or animals are allowed in the show.
There are limited spaces so please send in your application as soon as possible

BELLY DANCE COMBINATIONS MINI- WORKSHOP WITH GABRIELA

Need help putting moves together to create a dance? Then, come join me for a two-hour workshop of pure belly dance combinations and travelling steps that can be adapted to different styles of music: slow or fast tempo, pop, classic, etc.

This will be fun workshop where you'll be dancing non-stop! We'll begin the class with a warm-up to prepare our muscles for dancing. Then the first combination will be taught. I'll break it down for you, give you tips for variations according to your level of dance, and how to adapt to different music. We will dance it few times, then we'll move on to the second combination, and so on. A total of aprox. 8-9 combinations will be taught. This class is recommended for beginners (with some belly dance experience) to intermediate level.

HABDA is hosting next Tuesday evening's Vagabond Hafla at Avant Garden 8:30pm. If you wish to dance please let me know. If you haven't joined HABDA yet, here's your chance!! This will be a great event to try out that new piece you have been working on or to perform for the first time! It is a casual, fun, and supportive event.

We have had some vacations and work events cause a couple of dancers to have to cancel their performance. So there are openings! Please let me know ASAP if you would like to dance.

Just a quick update... we have received a wonderful response from the dance community for performances at Cirque. At this point, we are closing the performers list for Bellydance (all related styles), and will not be accepting any further dancers in that genre.

We are still looking for some vaudeville style performers, and other types of sideshow/circus related performers, so if you fill that bill, send me a message!

Level 1: Intro to Belly Dance: You don't need any dance experience, just a sense of adventure. We will be breaking down the basic movements used in belly dance. You will learn a bit about dance history, appropriate music styles for bellydance and where to get it, and costuming basics. At week 5, we will begin playing zills/finger cymbals. A hip scarf and a quality pair of finger cymbals (At week 4) are needed for this class. Anna has these items available for purchase before and after class.

Level 1 classes are held Saturdays 12pm-1pm. Class dates are as follows: July 18th, 25th, August 8th, 22nd, 29th, Sept. 5th, 19th, 26th.

Introducing ~~~ Level 2: Continuing Beginner class starting Saturday July 18th at 10:45am -11:45am.

Level 2 focuses on gaining proficiency in Level 1 technique (both dance and zill playing) and introduces the student to fun dance combinations. Don't let the word beginner fool you- this is a hard core class. Want to get your technique sharp and increase your speed while maintaining good technique? Come to this class. Prereq: Must have taken Level 1 or have prior belly dance experience. Please contact Anna to inquire re: placement. These classes use class cards for payment. 4 classes for $50 (good for 2 months) or 8 classes for $80 (good for 3 months). Drop-ins are $20. Neverland is a an art happening in memory of Michael Jackson. Featuring live music, video art, visual art, dance, and performance art. Neverland is a DIY celebration of the fantastic---- sequined gloves, the moonwalk, bubbles, and soulfulness. The event is open to visual and performance artists working in all visual media and styles. If you are interested in performing send a paragraph description. To participate in the exhibition, artists must submit contact info & 1 digital image of the artwork (include title, dimensions, media, and year) by July 13th at: la@labotanica.org. Selected artists will be notified by the 15th and will be responsible for hanging and de-installing works.

BELLY DANCERS WANTED for July 18th Sat. Performance

This a call for belly dancers particualrly those in the Montgomery county area. My sister and I with the cooperation of The very lovley Zulay of Chocolate passion are organizing (the hopefully first of many) a Belly dance showcase.

On July 18th (a Saturday) we are scheduled for 6-8pm.

We are looking for belly dancers intermediate and advanced levels, troupes and individuals to perform at the Chocoalate Passion coffee house & sweet shoppe in Conroe. Yes you read right CONROE!!!! There are very few performance opportunities in montgomery county to shake your shimmy outside of a class enviroment so we would like to give those who would like to perform the chance.

We will have a tip jar at the front to be divied up at the end of the night.

Please drop me an email and let me know if you are interested. Also let me know how long you would like your set to be (1 or 2 songs) and the lenghth of each. Your dance style and whether you are a troupe or not. This helps us figure out the line up.

However, many dancers often feel daunted by cymbal playing and have been using them less and less… Finger cymbals aren’t scary, and this workshop will help you approach cymbals as an instrument and as a way to enhance your performance. With the right exercises, anyone can play cymbals and dance! Nameless Sound seeks a volunteer web design guru/ unpaid intern. This individual will bring a bold, contemporary vision and revamp the website to better reflect the organization’s programs. Responsibilities include: define, architect and implement website enhancements to existing content, and incorporate new interactive elements including video and sound; and develop page layouts, creation, development, scalability and functionality of the web site. Upstage Theater needs bellydancers

Hello Ladies:

UpStage Theater has requested bellydancers for their upcoming children's production of "Aladdin".

This is a non-paying gig but you will get the warm fuzzies for helping out a kid's show.
They would like 4-6 dancers per show, but they don't need the same dancers for every show. So if you are available for one, that's ok!

The dates are
06/13, 06/14
06/20, 06/21
06/27, 06/28

All show times are at 2:00 pm and run about an hour and a half.

You would be involved in several scenes as fluff, no lines to remember. You would participate in a couple of entrance scenes and a cast finale, including signing autographs at the end of the show for the kids.

This is open to all skill levels and all sizes of girls. As this is a Disney style production, they ask that the costumes are more genie/ethnic looking. Please no cabaret or goth tribal costumes.

This is a perfect opportunity for student dancers, small troupes or for those that just want to contribute their art to a different community. The audience is predominately adults, so it's a chance to attract new venues or new students to any classes.

New Saturday Sessions of Beginner Level 1 & 2 with Anna - starting July 18th in Katy/Cypress

Level 1 - Introduction to Belly Dance 12-1pm
Level 2 - Continuing Beginner 10:45-11:45am

Starting July 18th, class dates for these classes are as follows: July 18th, 25th, August 8th, 22nd, 29th, Sept. 5th, 19th, 26th.

Level 1: You don't need any dance experience, just a sense of adventure. We will be breaking down the basic movements used in belly dance. You will learn a bit about dance history, appropriate music styles for bellydance and where to get it, and costuming basics. At week 5, we will begin playing zills/finger cymbals. A hip scarf and a quality pair of finger cymbals (zills) are needed for this class. Anna has these items available for purchase before and after class.

Pre-register before July 12th and pay $80 for the whole 8 week session. Late registration, after July 12, is $100 for the 8 week session.

Level 2: This class with focus on gaining proficiency in Level 1 technique (both dance and zill playing) and introduce the student to dance combinations. Prereq: Must have taken Level 1 or have prior belly dance experience. Please contact Anna to inquire re: placement.

The Creative Kids Ensemble explores the joy of music making in a positive and affirming environment. Nameless Sound explores music making for the special needs community. New series of Bellydance Classes at Ballam Studio!! And new format too!!

In a quest for delivering the best instruction to all the Goddesses that wish to learn the art of bellydance and accommodate all levels of students, I am pleased to announce that staring on July 13th we will enjoy the following classes:

Starting July13th. Every Monday at 6:30-7:30
Bellydance Fundamentals: Tribal Fusion Bellydance Level 1.
This class is specially designed for beginner students, although is also recommended for those with experience in Egyptian bellydance and no previous experience in Tribal.
In this level we will break down the moves and technique necessary to execute the most popular moves in Tribal Fusion. A muscle conditioning warm-up and a strong emphasis in the posture will be there too!! Finally, we will put together combinations and build up an exciting routine to send you home dancing like a snake!

Starting July14th. Every other Tuesday at 7:30-9:30
Tribal Fusion Bellydance Level 2.
Building upon the material learned in the level 1, this class is oriented to those who already are comfortable with the basics in Tribal Bellydance. Although experience in level 1 is recommended, it is not mandatory (if you have been dancing Tribal for a while and whish to attend please feel free to do a try-out class!).
In this level we will layer movements and build more elaborated combinations, with emphasis in traveling steps, “liquefied arms” and stronger isolations. A routine will be taught to challenge the students, and the 2 hour on-going format will allow us to deliver personal attention for improvement in the posture and technique.

Starting July16th. Every Thursday at 6:30-7:30
Tribal Fusion Bellydance Level 3: work with props!! First series (July16th- September17th): Tribal Sword.
Designed for those with a strong base in Tribal Bellydance and willing to add artistry and a whole new range of possibilities into their dance, we will review briefly the technique of moves and combinations and proceed to learn the art of dancing with a prop.
On this series we will learn a full routine designed to dance balancing a sword in Tribal Style!! Technique and steps will be broken down, and extra swords will be at the studio for those willing to practice with them! If you have ever wanted to learn to dance with a sword, this opportunity leaves you with no excuses!

Starting July15th. Every Wednesday at 6:00-7:00
Tribal Fusion Bellydance Level 4: not for the faint of heart!!
This class is designed for either the advanced student, semi-professional or professional dancer. A good level in muscle condition, stamina and technique are highly recommended. Please contact Silvia before attending

About the instructor:
Silvia Salamanca is a life-long dancer from Mallorca, Spain. She started her career as a belly dancer in 2001, when realizing the enormous benefits that this art-form brings to women in both body and spirit (something that she felt truly missing in other dance practices). From her first teachers, Tasnim Melendres and the acclaimed Nur Banu, two natural born-Egyptians, she realized how with the practice of belly dance that women can get closer to their self identity and discover oneself in a new level, increasing self-esteem, releasing stress and getting deeply in touch with the feminine essence in their soul. I was happily surprised by 3rd Coast. From the variety of teachers to vendors it is a well crafted event. The attention to not overlapping dance styles presented made for a well rounded educational experience as well as two nights of shows you just don't want to end. As an older beginning dancer I was intimidated at first by the range of classes and the caliber of the dancers. But once I got there I realized there's so much more to dance than memorizing choreography. Most thrilling of all was to find out there were lots of other people just like me!
The Third Coast Tribal Event gave me a confidence as a woman and a dancer that I never experienced before.

3rd Coast has everything - fun but informative workshops covering lots of different styles, amazing shows with incredible variety, great attendees and wonderful organizers. I'd sell my husband to attend if I had to.
